Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a thin layer of material made from porcelain or a composite, that is custom made to fit your teeth. The veneer is bonded to the natural tooth enamel and can quickly and easily improve teeth that are stained, crooked, chipped, cracked or have gaps.

A beautiful set of veneers can be created and applied with just a few visits to our comfortable Southbourne dental surgery near Christchurch and Bournemouth.

The implant treatment normally has two stages.

First the support post must be placed in the jaw and the jaw allowed to heal.

Once the healing has taken place, the replacement teeth are attached to the support post.

This may require more than one visit, first to fit the replacement teeth and then to place them. However, sometimes a single visit to the surgery can accomplish both fitting and placement.

Frequently asked questions

What are veneers?

Veneers are very thin “wafers” of ceramic porcelain. Our dentist in Southbourne bond those porcelain wafers to your teeth in order to change the coloUr, size, shape, and position of your teeth and enhance the shape of your face. Veneers are one of the most powerful tools our dentist have to utterly transform your teeth and your smile.

How do you create veneers?

Visiting the dentist regularly will not only help keep your teeth and mouth healthy, but will also help keep the rest of your body healthy. Dental care is important because it:

  • Helps prevent tooth decay
  • Protects against periodontal (gum) disease, which can lead to tooth and bone loss
  • Prevents bad breath – brushing, flossing, and seeing the dentist regularly will help reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth that causes bad breath
  • Gives you a more attractive smile and increases your self-confidence
  • Helps keep teeth looking bright by preventing them from becoming stained by food, drinks, and tobacco
  • Strengthens your teeth so that you can enjoy healthy, beautiful smiles for the rest of your life!
What are veneers made of?

Choosing a dentist who “clicks” with you and your family is important, and you may wish to consider several dentists before making your final decision. During your first visit, you should be able to determine whether the dentist is right for you. During your appointment, consider the following:

  • Is the appointment schedule convenient?
  • Is the office easy to get to and close by?
  • Does the office appear to be clean and orderly?
  • Was your medical and dental history recorded and placed in a permanent file?
  • Does the dentist explain techniques for good oral health?
  • Is information about cost presented to you before treatment is scheduled?
  • Is your dentist a member of the ADA (American Dental Association)?
Does getting porcelain veneers hurt?

The process of getting porcelain veneers for your teeth typically requires some local anaesthesia, but it should not be painful.

We do everything possible in our Bournemouth dental studios to keep you comfortable throughout the process of getting porcelain veneers for your teeth, from not rushing the procedure to creating dental veneers for your teeth in fewer visits.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Porcelain veneers for your teeth are thin, but they’re extremely durable, and most veneers last for decades.

No dentistry lasts forever, but with proper dental care and attention, dental veneers for your teeth from our Bournemouth dentist can last for many, many years.

How much do dental veneers cost?

You can find all pricing on our pricing page.

Alternatively please contact the Studio on 01202 421 999 to book a consultation.

How many of my teeth will need porcelain veneers?

Your teeth are unique, and the number of dental veneers you’ll need will depend on how you want to see your teeth transformed.

Veneers are usually done symmetrically.

In other words, if you have a porcelain veneer on one tooth on the left side of your mouth, you’ll usually also want a porcelain veneer on the same tooth on the right side of your mouth. That means veneers for your teeth usually come in even numbers, like eight or ten.

How much of my teeth are removed when I get porcelain dental veneers?

We refer to porcelain veneers for your teeth as “minimally invasive.”

This means that the amount of tooth removed to place a veneer at our Southbourne dental studio is extremely limited, no more than 1 to 1.5 millimeters.

However, much of the time a porcelain veneer for your teeth can be placed by our specialist dentist without removing any tooth structure at all. It depends entirely on your teeth’s unique situation and how you want your dental veneers to look.

How do I take care of my porcelain veneers?

You’ll care for our veneers in almost exactly the same way you’d care for your natural teeth and your overall dental health. To take care of your veneers, simply brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash. We also usually recommend a night guard to further protect your veneers from the dental wear caused by grinding. When you have veneers, we also suggest that you avoid eating hard candies, or any other very hard food that is not found in nature, since these can damage your veneers (just like they can damage your natural teeth). Eating apples, corn on the cob, and other natural foods that require vigorous biting and chewing are absolutely fine for veneers. So if you have veneers, you don’t have to worry about making a huge change.

Veneers from our Dorset based private dentist transforms the shape, colour, and overall appearance of your teeth.

But by enhancing your teeth, veneers can also change the shape of your face. Once your veneers are placed, they can often improve lip support.

Veneers can also soften or otherwise enhance the soft tissues of the face. This makes veneers an extremely powerful way to enhance your appearance and make your face look more youthful.
